LANSING, Mich. — McLaren Greater Lansing was awarded for its safe care environment by Healthgrades, which recognized the hospital by including it on their list of Patient Safety Excellence Award 2020 recipients. Released annually, Healthgrades’ Patient Safety Excellence Award recognizes hospitals that have the lowest occurrences of 14 preventable patient safety events.
Inclusion on the list places McLaren Greater Lansing among the top 10 percent of acute care hospitals nationwide in patient safety.

Our priority on patient safety and quality is a relentless journey, focused on Doing What’s Best for our patients, caregivers, volunteers, and visitors,” said Linda Mercado Peterson, MD, FAPA, FAPM, Chief Medical Officer. “Our culture of safety has been created through teambuilding, interdisciplinary collaboration, and psychological safety – speaking up if anyone, in any role, has a safety concern.”
Hospital data is tracked and measured, determining the provider’s effectiveness in preventing injuries, infections, and other serious conditions while patients are in their care. Healthgrades considers 14 patient safety indicators and other measurements to create the list of recipients.
McLaren Greater Lansing is one of five McLaren Health Care hospitals to earn the recognition, along with McLaren Oakland, McLaren Port Huron, McLaren Lapeer Region, and McLaren Macomb.
