McLaren announced Monday it will build a new $450 million hospital in south Lansing near the intersection of Forest Road and Collins Road. McLaren bought the land from the MSU Foundation.
The hospital will have 240 beds, a cancer center and an ambulatory care center. McLaren will expand its research partnership with Michigan State University at the new facility. It will eventually have more than 1,000 doctors, researchers and teachers.
The new hospital is expected to open in late 2021. McLaren says the project will create an estimated 2,500 construction jobs and 155 full-time and part-time jobs once the campus opens. Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero says this is one of the largest investments in the city's history.
McLaren says it will redevelop its existing campuses on Pennsylvania Avenue and Greenlawn Avenue in Lansing. It will work with the Lansing Area Economic Partnership to come up with ideas for those properties.
