There are others that think more research needs be done before anything is signed into law.
"Could we take a look at our background checks and mental health issues? Absolutely," said Mike Green, Owner of Not Just Guns in Mason. "But it's a slippery slope without doing due diligence to write these laws that make sense."
Green owns and sells guns for a living.
"I think that everyone should have a right to protect themselves, but I don't want guns in the hands of the wrong people," he said.
Green says he turns down potential customers every day, but he believes that hasty gun restrictions won’t make the country safer.
"Gun laws do not always help when the criminals don't obey the laws to begin with. And that needs to be where we're at."
Thursday morning, Mayor Schor signed a letter along with over two-hundred other mayors across the country urging the United States Senate to pass the bipartisan gun safety legislation passed by the House of Representatives.
"Right now there are gun show loopholes, there are so many ways that people can get a gun when they probably shouldn't," said Schor. "We need background checks, we need to make sure that people don't have that criminal history or mental illnesses...and those background checks can check for that stuff."
Green says when it comes to gun restrictions, the government needs to take emotion out of their policies.
"If these things are that important, which they are, then we need to put in time, diligence, money, efforts to coming out to a solid resolution and not just attacking firearms."
