Flint mayor files intent to sue state

Posted

The city of Flint has filed a notice of intent to sue the state of Michigan over the Flint Water Crisis. It's not an actual lawsuit at this point.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, Flint Mayor Karen Weaver said she hopes to keep working with Governor Rick Snyder towards a resolution.

She says she had to meet a March 25th deadline to file the claim to preserve the city's right to pursue a legal remedy if its needed in the future.

The notice says the city would ask for damages from "grossly negligent oversight." It blames the lead contamination on the Department of Environmental Quality's decision not to require corrosion control chemicals when the city switched it's water to the Flint river.
