The Capital Area United Way used one of the funniest parts of the classic movie "A Christmas Story" to raise money to help local families this year. It just needed two local celebrities willing to put their dignity on the line.
Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero and Q106 Disc Jockey Mojo challenged each other to a fundraising contest. The loser had to wear the pink bunny suit Ralphie gets from his Aunt Clara in the movie.
Mojo won. Thursday afternoon the Mayor paid up by wearing the suit.
Mojo said, "By a last-minute donation I ended up victorious and he donned that costume. I actually helped him put it on. It was team effort back there just like it is with the United Way here in our community."
Mayor Virg Bernero said, "My wife and I kicked in a little extra money to try to keep me out of the suit. It wasn't enough obviously. But I just hope folks will think about, as we enjoy our family and friends, If you've got a little extra now is the time and the United Way is a great way to give."
The Mayor wore a City of Lansing pin on the lapel of the bunny suit.
The Mayor and Mojo raised a grand total of $710 for the Capital Area United Way.
