Massive crowd shows up for LGBT vote in Jackson

Posted

A massive crowd showed up for the Jackson City Council meeting on Tuesday night in support of the non-discrimination LGBT ordinance.

Council member Derek Dobies says close to 400 people showed up, enough for the fire marshal to shut down city hall.

The meeting had to be moved to Michigan Theater.

Dobies says the ordinance passed its first vote and will be up for their final adoption at the next meeting.

The ordinance would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

If violated, discrimination from employment or public housing would be a civil infraction.

We'll let you know when the Jackson City Council holds the final vote.
