Mass amounts of construction in Mid-Michigan

LANSING, Mich. — In mid Michigan it doesn't seem to matter where your driving local, county and even state roads you will hit construction.

We went to talk to local residents about how they are dealing with summer road construction.

"The local traffic is a mess here," said Jimmy Prater.

From one road to the other road projects are causing backups anywhere you go. Leaving locals to question the overall plan.

"The county's don't talk, they don't communicate with one another," said Prater.

We talked to the Jackson County Department of Transportation and they say they that's not exactly the case. They meet regularly with the other County's, Townships and Villages but only if their road projects are on the border.

One resident wants them to do more.

"Improving the communication, just like a lot of things nowadays it seems we have so much access to different forms of communication," said Dan Hodge.

"It would really be easier to streamline the process and kind of coordinate the projects to make it easier for everyone to get around," said Hodge.

For most drivers they expect this construction season every year.

"Michigan summers are always construction season, it's the orange barrel season," said Hodge.

"It's an inconvenience to a lot of people and understand that, you know that, that can be frustrating," said Valentino.

"I try to not let it frustrate me."

"This is something where you only have really two seasons here in Michigan. You have winter and construction so get it done while you can," said Michael Hugh.

Road closures on I-96 bound will last until July 29 then eastbound 96 along the same stretch will shut down until August 12.
