MASON, Mich. — A local house will need to be knocked down after a fire that started Friday morning.

Local fire departments responded to a call around 8 am that a one-story home in Mason had heavy smoke coming out of it.

The fire left a lot of damage to the home, but primarily to the basement.

It's unknown what caused the fire to start but the Mason fire chief said the home will have to be torn down.

Although the floor didn't cave in its not salvageable.

When firefighters arrived at the scene and entered the home, they were quickly instructed to leave the home because the temperature was too hot and dangerous for firefighters.

It was unknown if anyone was in the house during the fire, so firefighters ripped open windows, doors, and even cut chunks of the side of the home out to relieve some of the smoke.

Typically, fire departments don't use this technique as it adds oxygen to the fire, but in this case, they said they wanted to do anything to get the occupants out of the home.

Luckily, no one was in the home.

Mason Fire Department is still working on putting out the fire.

They will continue to investigate what caused the fire to start.
