Marijuana plants found growing at I-96/I-496 interchange

Eaton County sheriff's deputies investigating a report of a man carrying a body into a wooded area ended up finding marijuana plants growing near the I-96/I-496 interchange in Delta Township Friday morning.

The first call came at 2:40AM from passers-by who thought they'd seen a man carrying a body wrapped in a blanket.

A group of deputies searched the area but didn't find anything. Another search team went back out after sunrise. They closed the ramp from eastbound I-96 to eastbound I-496 as a safety precaution.

Deputies did not find a body but they did find a man tending to several small plots of marijuana plants.

He's being held on an unrelated warrant out of Ingham County. The blanket witnesses thought was being used to cover a body was in fact being used to protect the plants.

Traffic was allowed to start using the ramp a little before noon Friday.
