The Ingham County Animal Shelter's annual adoption event "Adopt-A-Fest" will begin Friday at Potter Park in Lansing at the Tiger Den Pavilion.

This is a 30-hour adoption marathon, where volunteers and staff stay all day and night and adopt out the homeless pets from Ingham County Animal Control.

The event kicks off Friday at noon when the animals are officially available for adoption. From noon to 4 p.m., there will be a low cost vaccination clinic where Ingham County residents can bring their pets for free rabies shots, $10 distemper shots and $10 microchips for all Ingham County animals.

Dog licenses will also be able to be purchased at the vaccination clinic .

The adoption fees are discounted through the generosity of local businesses and private donors. Dog adoption fees are reduced to $30 and cat adoption fees are reduced to $10 for the whole event. All pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

All adoptions are subject to normal approval procedures and restrictions including an adoption application, interview, and proof of landlord permission for renters. All pets are available on a first come, first served basis.

The adoption event runs until 6 p.m. Saturday.
