Authorities are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man by a Detroit police officer.
Chief James Craig told reporters that Raynard Burton had been involved in a carjacking two days before he struggled with an officer and was shot Monday.
Craig said Wednesday that two officers in a patrol car tried to stop a speeding car Monday afternoon. The driver didn't stop, struck a building and then fled on foot.
One of the officers chased Burton behind a vacant house on the city's west side where the shooting occurred. Police later learned the car Burton was driving was taken Saturday in a carjacking.
Craig said Burton previously had been arrested for assault, auto theft and drugs.
