PENNFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a man was killed during an exchange of gunfire with police and after he shot two of his adult children and fired at his wife at their southern Michigan home.
The 46-year-old man was fatally shot early Saturday in Pennfield Township in what police say began as a domestic violence complaint.
Calhoun County Sheriff Matt Saxton says the man was drunk when he physically argued with his wife. The woman told deputies he fired a gun at her as she fled.
Saxton says the man shot his 18-year-old son in the arm and 22-year-old son in the stomach before they wrestled away the gun. Their injuries aren't believed to be life-threatening.
State police are investigating, and three officers from two departments are on administrative leave. Saxton says they did their jobs and likely saved lives.
