A man is in critical condition after he is shot in an early morning home invasion on Lansing's south side.

The shooting happened at 1:45 a.m. on the 400 block of Dunlap Street.

Lansing police tell FOX 47 News, someone broke into the family's home and opened fire.

A 34-year-old man, his family was not hurt. He was sent to a local hospital and is in critical condition.

Officers on the scene determined that a suspect broke into the home through the front door. The man confronted the suspect, which led to him being shot. After firing his weapon, the suspect ran.

Officers and Police K-9 tracked the suspect from the house, but were unable to locate him.

Detectives from Lansing Police Department and Michigan State Police and Crime scene investigators continue to diligently work this case.

All investigators ask for public assistance.
