LANSING, Mich. — Paul Ruggles was sentenced on Thursday in connection with child sexually abusive activity and possession of child sexually abusive material.

Jackson County Prosecutor, Jerry Jarzynka, says Ruggles will serve 3-5 years in jail.

Ruggles, 40, plead guilty to Attempted Child Sexually Abusive Activity and Possession of Child Sexually Abusive Material on June 28, 2019.

The investigation began in July of 2017 when the Michigan State Police Department was dispatched to take a criminal sexual conduct report.

Further investigation led to the discovery that Ruggles had possession of child sexually abusive material.

In February of 2018, he was arrested after being investigated by Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

At that time he was charged one count of child sexually abusive activity, one count of use of a computer to commit a crime, one count possession of child sexually abusive material and one count of accosting a child for immoral purposes.

Ruggles Jr. was arraigned on all counts on Tuesday and was issued a cash or surety bond of $100,000.

Then in March 2018, some charges were dropped "without prejudice" - which means they could be reissued at a later date.

Jarzynka said the charges were dropped so police could investigate Ruggles further.
