A Jackson County man who admitted to severely beating his two children will spend at least the next two decades behind bars.
James Harbert, of Spring Arbor, was sentenced 20 to 40 years in prison on Wednesday. The 50 year old pleaded guilty to two counts of first degree child abuse and one county of first degree child abuse in the presence of another child, after one of his son's testified against him.
The sentencing for his now ex-wife, Tina Harbert, was delayed until next Wednesday.

The Spring Arbor couple accused of beating their young sons are set to learn their fate Wednesday morning.
James and Tina Harbert are scheduled to be sentenced by Circuit Judge John McBain in Jackson at 9AM.
James Harbert pleaded guilty to three counts of First-Degree Child Abuse last month.
Tina Harbert was convicted on two counts of First-Degree Child Abuse the next day.
James Harbert was arrested back in September 2015 after someone reported to police seeing one of his children with serious injuries. Police found the couple's other child had similar injuries. Both children were removed from the home.
James and Tina Harbert are both facing up to life in prison.
