SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A Jackson County man was killed after crashing his motorcycle on U.S. 127, police said.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says the accident happened on southbound U.S. 127, just north of McDevitt Avenue in Summit Township around 7:46 p.m. Wednesday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was not wearing a helmet and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office says speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.

The accident shutdown part of U.S. 127 for a few hours while investigators were on scene but it has since reopened.

The name of the man is being withheld until his next of kin can be notified.
