Man killed by Eaton Co. Sheriff's Deputy during shootout

A man was killed by a Eaton Co. Sheriff's Deputy during an exchange of gunfire Tuesday afternoon.

Michigan State Police say members of the Eaton Co. Sheriff's Office were trying to issue a search warrant, and felony arrest warrant at a home on East Spicerville Hwy.

They were assisting the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Members of the DNR were not on scene. Police have not said what the warrants were for.

Police say the preliminary investigation showed that two deputies tried to stop the suspect, who was in a vehicle. A pursuit followed, and the suspect intentionally rammed both officer vehicles, and shots were fired.

The suspect was shot and pronounced dead on scene. There was nobody else in the suspects vehicle. Police are not releasing a name at this time. The family has not been notified.

A deputy suffered minor injuries when their car was rammed. They sustained minor injuries, and were taken to a hospital.

Michigan State Police are handling the investigation.
