Nigel Johnson Jr. said he was walking near the corner of Steward Avenue and Ganson Street when a white man in a red hoodie threw what he thinks is acid on his face.

Johnson says he has no idea why.

"Overall, I just want justice," Johnson said.

Johnson also has no idea who attacked him. He remembers a man holding a can approaching him on Steward Ave. and he didn't realize what was happening until he felt his face burning.

"It was a burning sensation, and my face was burning profusely. So suddenly I began to run from him as fast as I could," he said.

Johnson ran into Yogi's Party Store a few blocks away, where workers called 911. They thought he'd been shot when they saw the bloody condition he was in. After a few days in the hospital, Nigel says he is feeling better, but still not himself.

"Its affecting me from a physical point. More clearly, a mental mind, a state. My mentality has kind of been distorted. I'm having a lot of weary and negative thoughts. I want to be free again. I'm feeling very captive," he said.

Jackson Police are investigating the attack but don't have much to go on. Director Elmer Hitt told FOX 47 this sort of chemical assault is rare.

"I'm not familiar with any that we've had. Possibly we've had at some point in our history. But definitely not in the recent past, or nothing since this incident," Hitt said.

Rare or not, Nigel and his loved ones just want answers.

"This is unjustifiable, its unacceptable. I'm not a bad person. I haven't done anything wrong to anyone," he said,
