Man in serious condition after crashing into utility pole in Jackson

A man is in serious condition after crashing his car into a utility pole Friday morning.

At approximately 4:49 a.m. Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety responded to Cooper Road approximately near north of W. Parnall Road for a single vehicle personal injury accident.

Police say the man was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier southbound on Cooper Road before leaving the roadway.

The vehicle struck a utility lamp pole in the parking lot of the Michigan Department of Corrections Facility.

Upon arrival officers found the only occupant trapped inside the vehicle in serious condition.

Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety were able to use the Jaws of Life in extricating the subject from the vehicle.

The victim was transported by Jackson Community Ambulance to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in serious condition.

The accident is still under investigation by Blackman-Leoni Department of Public Safety and pending release of driver's name upon family notification.

At this time it appears that speed or alcohol were not involved.
