Police say they arrested a driver suspected in the hit-and-run death of a young girl with help from a man who followed him from the scene in western Michigan.
Muskegon Heights police say the child was struck around midday Sunday. Family members identified her as 6-year-old Taylor Davis.
Lamonte Wilkinson tells WOOD-TV he heard the crash and following the driver to a mobile home park, where he saw him remove a license plate from the vehicle. Wilkinson called police and waited for them to arrive. He says the girl could have been "anybody's kid."
Police Chief Joseph Thomas credited Wilkinson and others for helping find the suspect, who was jailed pending charges.
Amanda Jones, a cousin of Taylor, says the girl was riding her bike and wasn't in the street.
