The man who lied about the death of Ingham County sheriff's deputy Grant Whitaker could spend more than 22 years in prison for it.

A judge sentenced Tony Hildabridle to a minimum of 18 months on Wednesday.

Hildabridle pleaded guilty to perjury after he lied on the witness stand during John Kelsey's trial.

He later admitted he didn't want to testify against his friend.

Deputy Whitaker was chasing Kelsey when he crashed into a tree and died in 2014.

Kelsey is serving up to 40 years in prison.
