A man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after confessing to brutally killing man in Jackson County more than 7 years ago.

A judge handed down that sentence to 30-year-old Michael Beatty Thursday.

He pleaded guilty to felony murder in November in the death of 56-year-old Matthew Cramton.

Cramton was found stabbed to death in his home on West Coler Street in Summit Township in January 2009. As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dropped the original charge of open murder and two related charges of first-degree home invasion.

Beatty has been in prison for several years for unrelated crimes.

His girlfriend at the time is also charged in the case.

A judge ruled there was enough evidence to send Tiffany Reichard to trial for the murder in October. She's charged with one count of open murder.

It's scheduled to begin March.
