A man who was extradited from Canada to face a murder charge in the death of his former Flint-area wife more than three decades ago has been sentenced to 16 to 30 years in prison.

Jeries Qumsyeh (KUM'-say) was given his punishment Wednesday in a Flint courtroom. The Flint Journal reports  the 64-year-old received nearly 12 years' credit for the time he spent behind bars in Jordan, Canada and Flint.

The Jordanian native pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in March. It's not an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.

Qumsyeh was charged in the fatal shooting of Salwa Isaac, whose body was found in a ditch in Genesee County's Mundy Township in 1982. He fled to Jordan but ended up in Canada.
