Man dead after rear-ending UPS truck, speed a factor

One man is dead after rear-ending a UPS truck that was slowing down to turn into a driveway.

It happened around 1 p.m. Friday afternoon on Bellevue Road near Pine Lake Road in Calhoun County's Pennfield Township.

The driver, a 21-year-old Battle Creek man, was traveling northbound on Bellevue Road when he hit the UPS truck. He was trapped inside the vehicle after impact.

The driver was transported to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where he later died.

The UPS driver, a 51-year-old female from Kalamazoo, was not hurt in the crash.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.

To determine if alcohol was a factor, police are waiting for toxicology results.

Pennfield Township Fire Department, Emmett Township Fire Department, and Life Care Ambulance assisted the Calhoun County Sheriff's office with the crash.
