A 36-year-old man has been arrested for trying to poison his wife's coffee with a cocktail of prescription drugs.

Kevin Fabus and his wife were going through a divorce when the incident happened in May 2018. Fabus offered his wife a cup of coffee, saying "here, have this coffee I made for you." According to the police, the wife thought that was suspicious because he hadn't done that before.

She did not drink it because she saw "sludge" at the bottom of the cup and contacted the police.

The coffee was sent to a lab to be checked out. They included a muscle relaxant, and 2 different types of pills used to treat high blood pressure.

Multiple labs were used to determine if the concentration levels were strong enough to rate "attempted murder." The labs were unable to determine that.

Investigators in Shiawassee County say Fabus got the medications from the hospital in Lansing where he worked as a nurse.

He was arrested on Tuesday on a warrant for poisoning. He has since been released from jail on a $10,000 bond.
