A 22-year-old Lansing man is behind bars in connection with last week's homicide in Lansing.
Dequaries Devonte Jackson was arraigned Wednesday morning on open murder and weapons charges in the April 1 shooting death of 30-year-old Westley Cheeks of Lansing.
Cheeks was found with a gunshot wound at a home in the 100 block of Shepard shortly before 3am Saturday, April 1. Police said at the time they believed it was not a random shooting.
Jackson was arrested on Tuesday in Detroit without incident, tracked down by the Lansing Violent Crime Impact Team, the Michigan State Police fugitive team, Detroit fugitive team and the United States Marshals Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team.
Jackson is due back in court next week for a probable cause exam.
