Police say a pursuit with speeds reaching over 120 mph ended with the driver arrested, and a deputy in the hospital.
After 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 4 Calhoun County Deputies found a vehicle parked on the side of the road on V Dr N near 21 Mile Rd in Lee Township.
The driver was passed out with the car still running, and in gear. Deputies pounded on the window until he finally woke up - as soon as the driver woke up, he took off in his vehicle.
Deputies pursued until the vehicle reached the end of V Dr N where it dead ends into I-69. The vehicle crashed through a fence, and drove out onto northbound I-69 traveling southbound, in the northbound lanes.
Deputies, and officers from the Marshall Police Department got behind the vehicle as it continued to flee. They hoped their lights would help stop oncoming traffic from hitting the fleeing vehicle head on.
The pursuit continued for about 21 miles before deputies were able to get in front of the vehicle. They used a rolling road block to force the vehicle to stop.
The driver is a 46-year-old man from Decatur, MI. Police used a taser when he resisted arrest. He was placed under arrest for charges of Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting arrest causing injury and Operating While Intoxicated 3rd or subsequent offense.
The deputy that was injured was taken by ambulance to Oaklawn Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He was transferred to Borgess Hospital in Kalamazoo as a precautionary measure.
There were no civilians injured during the incident.
