Man accused in 2009 cold case murder arraigned

The man accused of brutally killing a man in Jackson County over 7 years ago has been arraigned.

30-year-old Michael Beatty is charged with one count of open murder in the death of 56-year-old Matthew Cramton.

Cramton was found stabbed to death in his home on West Coler Street in Summit Township in January 2009.

The Jackson County Sheriff tells News 10 Beatty was a person of interest in the crime almost immediately.

Detectives were finally able to get enough leads to establish to connect him to the murder and Beatty finally cooperated, leading to the charge of open murder.

Beatty has spent the better part of the last 6 years behind bars for unrelated crimes.

Tiffany Reichard is also charged in the case.

She was Beatty's girlfriend at the time.

Police believe she was in the house when Cramton was killed.

Beatty and Reichard are due back in court for a preliminary exam on Wednesday, September 14th at 8:30a.m.
