LANSING, Mich. — On the last day of Black History Month, Lansing Community College unveiled a portrait of a civil rights leader who grew up in Lansing.
Malcolm X was a key leader in the Civil Rights movement, starting in the mid-1950s.
His portrait now hangs in the Gannon building at LCC.
Members of his family, along with the artist who painted the portrait, were there for the celebration.
"The main thing he said was be proud of who you are. Stand strong and be firm for what you believe in. That's how he lived," said Malcolm X's niece, Deborah Jones.
The artist, Joshua Adam Risner, has won numerous awards for his oil paintings and drawings.
If you'd like to see the painting for yourself, it's located on the second floor of the Gannon building near the Starzone.
