JACKSON, Mich. — Jackson will be getting a new YMCA soon.

American 1 Credit Union has given a $600,000 gift to a capital campaign for a new YMCA in downtown Jackson.

“Our board of directors and executive team believe in the good work that the Y does for all citizens of our community,” said Martha Fuerstenau, President and CEO of American 1 Credit Union.

The gift includes naming rights for the lobby/main entrance of the building, which is also where American 1 will be able to offer financial education classes.

“We believe that American 1 and the Jackson Y are well-aligned in our common purpose to welcome and serve all citizens as we seek to create a healthier community be it physical health, social responsibility, or financial wellness.”

Part of the goal behind the gift is for the YMCA to reach more people and increase their services.

Fuerstenau says he believes the community will thrive as a result.
