LANSING, Mich. (WSYM)-- How about some canned goods to go along with those letters or cards this mother's day weekend?
Letter carriers have been hard at work since Saturday morning picking up food from homes delivering to the Greater Lansing Food Bank.
"We help anybody who says they are hungry. We want to make sure they have enough to eat. It's really important. This food drive not only is it one of the biggest food drives we have of the year, it's also one that helps us prepare for summer when children who are not in school during the summer months lose access to the cafeteria and some of those school programs," Justin Rumenapp from the Greater Lansing Food Bank said.
The National Association of Letter Carriers encouraged everyone locally to join them in their "Stamp Out Hunger" event asking everyone to leave non-perishable food items by their mailboxes to help families in need.
The primary goal is to replenish local food banks.
This is the 25th year of doing this, and the number of volunteers just keeps growing because they believe no kid should go on without food.
