You may have heard of the well-known ride-sharing service Uber, but there's a new way to get around.

Lyft is a growing ride-share company aimed at helping people get safe rides around town, including to and from the Capital Region International Airport.

"Since its inception in 2012, Lyft has been committed to treating people better and as a result, our drivers and passengers are incredibly welcoming and friendly," according to a Lyft spokesperson.

Lansing's founding group of drivers includes a member of the National Guard, a substitute teacher, a mobile app developer, and a caregiver who works with recovering car crash patients.

The convenience and affordability of Lyft can especially help you out during Michigan State football tailgating season.

“As Lyft expands across the country, we aim to reconnect people and communities through better transportation. That’s why we’re absolutely thrilled to be launching in Lansing, a city that cares for its people in the same way, " said Alex Warbasse, Lyft’s Senior Manager of Expansion. "Lyft is committed to ensuring a safe and friendly experience to both riders and drivers alike. Whether they’re heading out for a visit to Michigan State Capitol or catching a game at Spartan Stadium, locals and visitors in Lansing will be able to rely on Lyft as their convenient and affordable ride around town.

The new service launches Thursday, August 11 at 12 p.m. and to celebrate Lyft is offering new passengers a code to receive $5 off their first ride!

CODE: LYFTINLAN
