LANSING, Mich. — The Lansing Police Department has released the name of a 33-year-old suspect following a shooting in the 2800 block of west Jolly Road.
Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 2800 block of west Jolly Road on reports of a shooting around 11:16 a.m. Friday.
Once officers got to the scene, they located a 33-year-old man, Joseph Thomas Chavez, and a 61-year-old man, who had an apparent gunshot wound.
Police said officers learned Chavez was the shooting suspect and took him into custody without incident.
Police said the 61-year-old man was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
LPD said the preliminary investigation indicates the victim and Chavez are related to each other and live in the same home. Police said the Chavez had a verbal altercation which led to the shooting of the 61-year-old man.
Police said the shooting was no random and is believed to be an isolated incident with no immediate threat to the public.
