There are new details on the deadly 53 car pileup last month on I-96.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Office says a lone driver, going too fast, caused the crash.

According to the Lansing State Journal, that driver has been identified as a Howell resident.

Authorities say they anticipate seeking reckless driving charges against the man.

He lost control of his SUV just before 10 a.m. on December 8, blocking both lanes of Westbound I-96.

Three people were killed in the crash and more than 30 others were injured.
