Fox 47's Lora Painter talks with a family from Holt about the benefits of early intervention. Miles Cole, a senior at Holt High School, is succeeding in many parts of his life thanks to the dedication of his family and educators at Sycamore Elementary School in Holt.

Early Intervention means the services and supports for families with babies and young children who have developmental delays and disabilities. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said early intervention can significantly improve a child's ability to learn new skills and overcome challenges in school and life.

This summer, Miles and his family met with his early intervention teacher Jill Terry, a special needs teacher at Sycamore Elementary. She is one of many educators in Mid-Michigan offering local parents the early intervention resources-- such as speech or physical therapy-- to help their children succeed. Thanks to this extra support at a young age, Miles is able to do many things a typical teenager can do, such as driving a car.
