A Michigan group is calling on lawmakers to pay attention to the President's budget and the cuts they say will hurt Michigan families.
With Medicaid at risk, people definitely don't want to lose their in-home care and disability through the proposed budget cut.
They say losing those things have a direct effect on how people live their everyday lives.
"Well I hope to accomplish that our legislatures will pay attention to the policy of keeping long term health care. Sometimes it's not about health, it's about basic needs if it's transportation, and also the importance of child care, and early childhood education because when children start early in childhood education, it enforces their whole lifeline, so a lot of times we want to let them know that it's important," Michelle George said.
More than $800 billion dollars will be cut from medicaid which is a government program that helps many, and not just the poor. The budget also includes eliminating money for planned parenthood and welfare programs.
Senator Rick Jones said even though cuts have to be made somewhere he does hope the president finds balance in the budget.
"I do support trying to balance the budget. It's really out of control at the federal level, but what I am saying is, if they cut medicaid funding, then we have to cut at the state level because most of the funding comes from the feds, but I will do everything possible to keep medicaid coverage for the disabled, for single moms and for children.
They need to have it," he said.
Senator Jones said he has not looked at the full federal budget proposal yet, so he can't fully say he supports it completely. He really emphasized that he hopes the president finds a balance when making the cuts.
