Local man hospitalized in snowmobile accident in Upper Peninsula

ALGER COUNTY, Mich. — A local man is recovering in a hospital in the Upper Peninsula after being involved in a snowmobile accident.

The Alger County Sheriff's Office received a report of an accident involving a snowmobile and a vehicle at approximately 9:50 a.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2019.

The investigation indicated that Travis Joe Ross, a 37-year-old male from Charlotte, Mich. was traveling east on H-58 a high rate of speed when he struck a snowmobile trailer that was being towed by a pickup truck.

Police say Ross was ejected from the snowmobile and came to rest approximately 100 feet from the point of impact.

He was transported to UP Health Systems in Marquette and is reportedly in stable condition.

The Alger County Sheriff's Office says speed and reckless driving were contributing factors in the accident.
