The passing of the American Health Care Act has Mid-Michigan lawmakers split.
"I have tremendous concerns," State Rep. Andy Schor (D)- Lansing, said.
"I'm happy they're doing something,” Senator Rick Jones (R)- Grand Ledge, said.
Senator Rick Jones believes that if Obamacare is left the way it is, it'll implode on itself.
"And it will be nothing for anybody,” Jones said. “My constituents tell me overwhelmingly they don't like Obamacare, it has driven up their costs."
That's why he's glad to see Washington trying to make a change. State representative Andy Schor feels differently.
"To come in and repeal the whole thing and create something new that is tremendously higher in cost for seniors and tremendously higher in cost for those who are pregnant, those who have cancer, those with other pre-existing conditions. And not talking about how they're going to pay for it. That's going way to far," Schor said.
Schor says if the bill makes it through, people in Michigan will have a harder time accessing health care.
"We're going to see people who can't afford health care, who can't afford health insurance and they're going to end up not getting the care that they need," Schor said.
Jones believes the senate will want to make some changes before approving it. He hopes it'll make health care less expensive.
“They've apparently done away with penalties. Some people would be able to get something hopefully a lot cheaper and cover their family a lot cheaper. Right now I'm getting an awful lot of complaints in my office. How come I have to pay so much? 5 thousand deductible, 7 thousand deductible and i can't even afford it," Jones said.
In the meantime, they're watching and waiting.
