LANSING, Mich. — These Girl Scouts are about a lot more than just cookies.

Members of Troop 30197 from Potterville earned their silver award on Thursday.

A silver award requires 50 hours of community service.

The troop members delivered 75 care packages to patients at the Breslin Cancer Center.

They put together the care packages themselves and handed them out to infusion patients before touring the infusion area.

Their troop leader says the girls learned a big lesson from this act of kindness.

Brandy Thompson, the troop leader said, "These girls are fortunate, they're healthy happy girls, they have homes. And we really want these girls to look at the community around them, assess what needs there might be and get to work."

The girl scout troop has been working on the project since last August.

They've held fundraising events to raise money to buy the items in the packages, and have been reading books about cancer to learn more about what the patients are experiencing.
