Local County Commissioner dies unexpectedly in Northern Michigan

JACKSON, Mich. (WSYM) - Jackson County Commissioner John Polaczyk died unexpectedly in Northern Michigan Saturday morning.

Chairman James E. (Steve) Shotwell, Jr. tells FOX 47 News Polaczyk was taken to a Traverse City hospital where he died from a sudden illness.

Polaczyk retired from his full time job and had a home in Northern Michigan that he would visit on the weekends.

Polaczyk represented the eight district located within the City of Jackson.

According to the Jackson County Commissioners website, for the past 14 years Polaczyk worked as a Nurse Manager for Allegiance Health managing the Occupational Health Clinics as well as recently as the Allegiance Hearing Clinic.

Polaczyk served on Jackson City Council before becoming a County Commissioner.
