Dozens of local children will get to celebrate Christmas a couple weeks early Tuesday.

40 Lansing children will shop the aisles of the Meijer on West Saginaw Highway with local police officers and firefighters for the annual 'Shop with a Hero' event at 11 a.m.

Michigan State Police, Eaton County Sheriff's Office, Delta Fire Department, and other local dignitaries will take part in the event.

The 'Shop with a Hero' event pairs underprivileged children with local heroes to shop for holiday gifts for themselves and their families.

Each child will receive $100 dollars in Meijer gift cards to buy whatever they want in the store.

The kids will get to enjoy a pizza party, visit and take photos with Santa Clause, and wrap their gifts at a gift wrapping station.

Meijer hosts more than 100 "Shop with a Hero" events across Michigan during the holiday season.
