Local band mourns loss of murder victim

Posted

FOX 47 has learned more about the woman killed in a murder-suicide at the JOANN Fabrics store in Lansing Township.

She has been identified by police as 25-year-old Rachel Duncan. Officers say she was shot by her former boyfriend, Timothy Olin Monday afternoon before he turned the gun on himself. Duncan had filed a personal protection order against Olin.

Family and friends are mourning the loss of Rachel Duncan. She played in the Charlotte Community Band.

FOX 47's Marcus Dash spoke with James McRae the band's director, and longtime friend of Duncan, who says she'll be remembered for her cheerful personality. He's still stunned by her death.

McRae knew Duncan for twelve years, and says she was an integral part of the band that formed five years ago. Over those five years Duncan only missed one performance, and McRae says moving on without her is going to be tough.

McRae says Duncan was always positive and had a great energy about her.
