LANSING, Mich. — Cathy Wilhm has been in her new role for just a few weeks but she has already hit the ground running. Moving into the role of Technical Careers Dean after the retirement of Mark Cosgrove has been no small feat.

“Stepping into a new leadership role is always a challenge,” said Wilhm. “Stepping into the role following a great leader in the midst of a pandemic is even more challenging.”

Dean Wilhm is overseeing the restart of a return to in-person training at LCC’s Fire Academy following the college’s transition to online instruction on March 18 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The return of Fire Academy students began earlier this week with other hands-on programs like Lineworker and the Mid-Michigan Police Academy also transitioning in a return to campus.

“I am proud to be able to continue serving the college in the Technical Careers Division,” said Wilhm. “We have experienced amazing growth in our facility with the addition of the Center for Manufacturing Excellence and with significant programming enhancements and outstanding faculty and staff thanks to our retired dean, Mark Cosgrove.”

Wilhm began her career with LCC in 2001 as the LCC liaison with workforce development partner, Capital Area Michigan Works! For more than 13 years, she provided valuable services to adults and at-risk youth guiding them through options to assist with their educational needs. During that time, she also served as the Director at the Center for Workforce Development.

In 2015, Wilhm became the Interim Director for Part-Time Faculty Services with the Technical Careers Division. She was selected as the associate dean for the Technical Careers Division in 2016. Her stellar skills in introducing technical fields’ career opportunities to underrepresented populations is highly regarded.

Wilhm is an Oklahoma State University graduate with a Biology/Zoology degree and an Organizational Administration degree. Additionally, she has completed master’s level coursework in Public and Non-Profit Administration at Central Michigan University.
