LANSING, Mich. — In consultation with the Mid-Michigan District Health Department and the Ingham County Health Department, LCC is reopening the Health and Human Services (HHS) Building on Monday, Nov. 11.
The college closed the HHS Building on Thursday, Nov. 7, as a preventative measure. LCC had received verification that an LCC employee was diagnosed with Legionnaire’s disease, and another employee reported flu-like symptoms shortly thereafter. Symptoms of Legionnaire’s disease are similar to flu symptoms.
The second employee’s test results are confirmed negative for Legionella. It remains unknown where the first employee contracted Legionnaire’s disease. The local health departments continue to work to identify the source.
With no confirmed additional cases among LCC students or employees, and in consultation with local public health departments, the college’s Health and Human Services Building will reopen on Monday, Nov. 11.
During the next several weeks, as a further precaution, the college will independently pursue additional testing and cleaning of the Health and Human Services Building.
