LANSING, Mich. — LCC President Brent Knight has accepted an invitation to join the Task Force on Community College Apprenticeships by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). The invitation was extended by AACC President and CEO Walter G. Bumphus.
This prestigious appointment is a three-year term extended to those with strong knowledge and experience in leading apprenticeship programs.
The task force is charged with identifying, validating and promoting highly successful apprenticeship models and work-based learning programs. In cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Labor, the task force will initiate a series of activities and serve as an incubator for testing models, programs and metrics.
Activities of the task force will include exchanging the most up-to-date information on apprenticeship training and work-and-learn opportunities with business and industry; developing new and expanding on existing apprenticeships with companies and their supply chains that will result in 4,000 apprentices; and working with some 80 colleges to train 12,000 apprentices by the end of the three-year period.
President Knight continues to be a sought-after leader because of his ability to articulate and achieve a vision while inspiring and motivating others with courage and humility.
