More than 400 students in grades K-6 are expected to come together at Lansing Community College, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, for STEMfest.
This free event will provide a fun and exciting day of exploration in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). There will be more than 50 hands-on activities, including Drawing in Proportion, IR Photography, Create A Comet, Fun Math, Spirals, Fantastic Frogs, Elemental Extravaganza and Weather or Not. The atmosphere is one of learning, without the pressure of competition.
StemFest (formerly known as SMEE) has been held at LCC for over thirty years. It began as an elementary version of the competitive Science Olympiad and was converted to a non-competitive version around 10 years ago.
“StemFest is a great opportunity for youth in our community to experience science technology, engineering, and math concepts in a fun, interactive, and inspiring environment,” said LCC science professor, Alicia Musser.
The LCC Science and Math departments count this community outreach event as one of their favorites of the entire year. This year’s exploration will take students on a journey through STEM guaranteed to make a lasting impression.
