A Bay City attorney who was sentenced to 18 months of probation for crashing into a pedestrian in 2015 after taking a sleeping aid has settled a lawsuit stemming from the crash for more than $1 million.
A judge last month exceeded the recommended six months of probation for Edward M. Czuprynski in the case. A jury earlier found Czuprynski guilty of a misdemeanor charge of moving violation causing serious bodily impairment. He was acquitted of a felony.
The Bay City Times reports (http://bit.ly/2kORuG1 ) James S. Stivenson appeared in court Tuesday and his attorney Todd J. Weglarz requested that another judge dismiss the lawsuit. Weglarz says the money will cover Stivenson's medical bills, pain and suffering.
Czuprynski argued the sleeping aid had not entered his bloodstream when the crash occurred.
