There was a moment of unity Tuesday among house lawmakers divided by the government shutdown.
As they held a moment of silence to mark the eighth anniversary of a shooting targeting former representative Gabrielle Giffords.
She was shot and wounded during an event in Tucson, Arizona by a gunman who also killed six people and injured 12 others.
Giffords was shot in the head, but recovered.
The Arizona democrat who was in Washington Tuesday later shared a hug with republican representative Steve Scalise on the house floor.
Scalise himself was also shot and injured during a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia, in 2017.
Four other people were wounded in that shooting.
