Saturday the Michigan Law Enforcement Officers gathered to unveil a memorial monument to honor the lives of fallen officers.Diane Philpot a surviving spouse says this was a long time in the making.

"We should have had this many, many years ago. We're one of the few states that didn't have one and so for me it was a huge goal for all of us that were on it from the beginning to get this thing built to honor everybody."

It took a lot of people to complete this memorial.

"Many people across the state have donated to make this happen," said Kathy Colebrown, surviving spouse.

Now the surviving spouse's family and friends have a place to go.

"Now they have a place that they can just sit and be with them and feel them when they're here cause I think they're all here and they're all smiling," said Philpot.

"It's nice to have somewhere in Michigan to have my family have somewhere to go," said Deodge Hill, surviving spouse.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel was at the event and was surprised to see how many names were at the monument.

"I can't believe how many of the folks who are on this wall, I actually knew them at one point, and I think it's so important that we remember the sacrifice that they made."

Those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty now have a place to always be honored.

"It's a perfect setting here in downtown Lansing I think it will get a lot of visitors and it will be here forever," said Joe Gasper, Kernel of State Police.

You can find the memorial monument at the corner of Allegan Street and Butler Boulevard.
