A cease and desist order has been ordered against a glass company in Williamston accused of operating without a license.
LARA's Bureau of Construction Codes (BCC) issued the order against Gary L. Turner and his Mid-Michigan Glass Works, LLC for providing services without a license.
This is in violation of the Michigan Occupational Code.
"Before starting a home building project, ensure that you hire a reputable residential builder who is properly licensed with the State of Michigan,” said Bureau of Construction Codes Director Keith Lambert. “Verify their current license status and check for any consumer complaints or disciplinary action by looking it up on the LARA website or calling 517-241-9316. Homeowners should also check with their building department to determine what construction permits are required, and that the residential builder has obtained them.”
The investigation was prompted by a complaint against Turner and Mid-Michigan Glass Works.
The results of the investigation showed the following violations of the Occupational Code:
1) not possessing applicable licenses, and 2) entering into an agreement with a consumer for performing residential building services regulated by the code.
The investigation also revealed deficient installation of windows on a residential structure, failure to obtain a building permit, failure to adhere to the standards of construction codes, and multiple violations of the Michigan Residential Code.
The cease and desist order means that Turner can not practice as a residential builder and the company, Mid-Michigan Glass Works can not operate as a building company.
The cease and desist orders also notified the people that had hired Turner of their right to request a hearing within 30 days in response to the orders.
LARA stated in a release that violations of the Occupational Code may lead to administrative, civil, and criminal sanctions, including a maximum fine of $25,000 per violation.
And, a person not licensed under the Occupational Code as a residential builder who willfully violates the code may be subject to criminal penalties.
